This is an incredible whistle--I can honsetly say it's the best I've ever played. Worth every cent. This is the first time I've splurged on an expensive whistle and not been dissapointed--the first one I can unequivocally say is better than the Susatos I've been playing all these years. Resonant, clear tone on both octaves. Relatively low air requirement given the volume. Thanks!

When trying to learn how to play the Penny Whistle I purchased a Feadóg and a Clarke Sweetone. Some forums mention how you don't need an expensive whistle... Well what I found is that these two whistles caused me to become very frustrated while trying to learn. I couldn't hit the notes, they sounded just awful, and one kept clogging with spit after 30 seconds of play. I purchased a Burke DBSBT and was THRILLED !!! I no longer had the handful of problems that was irritating me but found this whistle a joy to play ! In following the Book and CD that I'd purchased to learn Penny Whistle, after a few days I could play over the top of the CD and my notes were right on ! So much so that my wife was amazed. My personal advice is that if you're a beginner, buy a Burke to learn with, otherwise you might get frustrated and give up as I almost did. I love my Burke !

This is the first expensive whistle I have purchased also. It was highly recommended on a Tin Whistle board I am on, and boy, did it come through. The first time I played it, I never wanted to put it down. It feels great in your hands...like your really holding something and so sweet and clear sounding and beautiful on top of all of that. I love my DBSBT and will be playing it for years to come!

This is a great whistle. It's so easy to play. Many people who have tried it are shocked at how tunes that you vaguely know seem to be so much easier to play on this whistle than any other - so much so that one of my friends calls it my magic whsitle! Although it is rather quite it has a beautiful tone which is nice by its self or in a session. Thanks very much!!

I just received my whistle today, and all I can say is.... Oh my God... what a wonderful instrument! As other reviewers have already posted above, the notes sound so clear, warm and yet strong compared to my old whistles! I did a lot of shopping before buying an expensive whistle, and I have only good things to say about Burke's whistles. Now to get me a Low D for Xmas! (^*^)

I have to agree with Ffion Thomas's review. This whistle is magically easy to play. The notes are beautifully mellow and pleasing to the ear in both octaves. None of my other whistles compare. I have found that perfect one!

As a semi-professional clarinetist, I know what a difference a high quality instrument can make in tone, ease of playing, and enjoyment. This whistle definitely gets 5 stars in all those areas. I have been practicing a minimum of 1.5 hours a day ever since I received the whistle. I have a feeling I will be practicing this instrument more than my clarinet in the coming months. It is becoming an obsession. I have only had for 7 days and can't stop repeating long rolls to perfect their "snappiness". This whistle has fueled a budding love of irish music.

I agree that this is a good instrument. I've had this 4 or 5 days now, and put in the 5 hours or so the first day to get rid of the horrible edge of sound that comes often with brass. Towards the end of today's practice session, there were moments of no edge, which is what I'm aiming for.. as well as more control. I like the back pressure on this instrument. It was also good I didn't expect to sound anything like I did on my other pennywhistle. The notes on that were clear, clean, pure, and fast. This in the future will be the same, and most definitely better, because the notes will be purer and rounder. That I can hear now. Presently, I've spent perhaps 20 hours plus in four days trying to adapt to it so it'll sound good to me. It is pleasurably able to take a bit of accidental abuse without even a dent. It is well worth the money if you give it the time. Giving up on an instrument is the worst thing you can do. Try not to ever do that. Also, consider reading "The Recorder Book" by Kenneth Wollitz for techniques like the yawn technique for faster progression in the quality of your sound.
